Thanks so much for your interest in volunteering with Decatur Cooperative Ministry!

DCM is a nonprofit organization located in the heart of Decatur. Our programs, which focus on preventing and alleviating homelessness, include:

We have many wonderful volunteer opportunities including child care, office assistance, technology center tutor, homework helper, dinner volunteer, client mentor, and more.

We ask all new volunteers to attend DCM 101 within the first two months of service. DCM 101 is a one-hour introductory volunteer training. Email or call Rachel Small in the DCM office, 404.377.5365, to schedule a session.

TERRIFIC Volunteer Opportunities with Decatur Cooperative Ministry!

Expanding Horizons Enrichment Program

Children's Computer Lab:
Monday through Wednesday nights from 7-8:00 p.m., facilitated lab time for children. Volunteers, please commit to one night per week or two nights per month.
Adults Computer Lab:
Saturday mornings, 9:30-11:30, facilitated lab time for adults to work on computer skills, resumes, job-searching. Volunteers, please commit to one Saturday morning per month.

Project Take Charge

Financial Management facilitators (2-3 times per year):
Three-session class taught twice per month to clients at Project Take Charge. Volunteers usually do all three sessions, 2-3 times per year. We request a longer-term commitment for this, due to extensive training.

Hagar's House

Homework Help:
Monday through Thursday nights, 7-8:30 p.m. at Hagar's House. Please commit to one night per week or two nights per month.
Child Care Saturday mornings year-round:
for moms working in the Tech Center. Please commit to one to two Saturdays per month.
Child Care weeknights:
During other DCM support programs for adults. The financial management classes are held Tuesday through Thursday mornings (10:00 a.m. til noon) and Tuesday through Thursday evenings (7:00-9:00 p.m.) In addition, a support group is held intermittent evenings, one evening per week, for 12 weeks, 1-2 times per year.
Dinner:
Plan, provide (shop), and prepare entire meal from beginning to end, for either a group of 15-20 or a group of 20-30.
Lead Volunteer for Hagar's House (1-2 shifts each month):
(5:45- 8 p.m. 7 nights per week, or 3-6 p.m. Sunday afternoons) Offer support to clients, staff, and other volunteers. Interact with mothers and children to hand out supplies and handle requests. Help in many ways with guests getting settled in, dinner volunteers setting up, and more. We request a commitment of at least 6 months due to more extensive training.
Overnight Host:
Terrific hands-on opportunity to work directly with clients. Role includes having dinner with guests at 6:30 p.m. through serving breakfast the next morning. (Staying awake all night is not required). Singles over 21, couples, small families (limited sleeping space) all welcome.

Administration & Maintenance:

Office Assistance (2-4 hour shifts weekdays 9-5):
DCM's administrative office seeks volunteers to help with telephones, sorting and organizing donations, occasional database assistance and document preparation. In addition, Project Take Charge seeks help with phones, food pantry, client intake. Monday-Thursday.
Repairs and Maintenance Assistance:
Weekdays and intermittent weekends, help with small repair jobs around office or housing locations.
Weekday Volunteers with a truck:
Occasional need for help moving donated furniture or appliances.
